ICOFC to begin developing Mokhtar gas field soon

TEHRAN - Managing director of Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) said on Saturday that the development of the Mokhtar gas field in southwestern Iran will begin soon, Shana reported.
“After solving some technical problems and making the necessary preparations, the project implementation is in good condition, and soon with the stationing of a drilling rig at the field we will witness the drilling of the first well,” Mehdi Heidari said.
Mokhtar hydrocarbon reservoir is situated 10 kilometers off the provincial capital Yasouj.
Back in July 2023, the executive operations of the first phase of the storage project of the Mokhtar gas field began.
The project, which kicked off during President Ebrahim Raeisi’s visit to Kohgilouyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in the presence of Oil Minister Javad Oji and National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Managing Director Majid Chegeni, is aimed at helping redress the seasonal imbalance between gas production and consumption.
The project will be implemented in two stages and 10 million cubic meters per day (mcm/d) will be added to the country’s gas production capacity when it becomes operational.
More than 2,000 local experts will help carry out the project within three years and 420 million euros have been earmarked for completing the project.
Eight to 10 wells will be drilled in the reservoir development stage and refining, gas injection, and gas dehydration unit systems will be installed later to inject the reservoir’s gas into the national grid.
