Tehran’s Vahdat Hall to host musical adaptation of “The Little Prince”

April 8, 2024 - 22:45

TEHRAN-Tehran’s Vahdat Hall will host a musical adaptation of French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince” on April 17.

Directed by Mahan Heydari, the two-hour play will be staged with a group of 50 actors, singers, and musicians, ILNA reported.

Kamran Jahanbani, Nazanin Keyvani, Amirreza Tavanaei, Kiana Hoveyda, Nika Karahan, Mani Farzaneh, Ali Jenabi, and Setayesh Gharibi are in the cast among others.

The story starts with a downed pilot in the Sahara Desert, frantically trying to repair his wrecked plane. His efforts are interrupted one day by the apparition of a little prince, who asks him to draw a sheep. The little prince, who lives in a faraway asteroid with his rose, has come to Earth where he meets a fox, a snake, and some strange people.

Equally loved by children and adults alike, “The Little Prince” is one of the most translated books on the planet. First published in 1943, “The Little Prince” has been translated into 300 languages and dialects.

The book has been adapted to numerous art forms and media, including audio recordings, radio plays, live stage, film, television, ballet, and opera.

“The Little Prince” draws portraits of grown-ups as being hopelessly narrow-minded. In contrast, children come to wisdom through open-mindedness and a willingness to explore the world around them and within themselves. The main theme of the fable is expressed in the secret that the fox tells the little prince: “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly: what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944) was a French aviator and writer whose works are the unique testimony of a pilot and a warrior who looked at adventure and danger with a poet’s eyes.

The musical play will remain on stage until May 19, at Vahdat Hall, located on Shahriar St., Hafez Ave.
