Clinton to Meet Saudi Prince on Oil Prices

WASHINGTON President Bill Clinton will meet Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah next week in New York to discuss, among other issues, ways to bring down global oil prices, a U.S.
official said on Friday.
"We believe that it is in the interest of both producing countries and consuming countries that you have a stable, reasonable price of oil," said a U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The two leaders will meet in New York, probably on Wednesday, on the fringes of the UN Millennium Summit.
There were indications on Thursday that Saudi Arabia would push for an increase in output of at least 500,000 barrels per day at an OPEC meeting Sept. 10.
The official said the primary focus of the meeting will be the Middle East peace process and Iraq.
In addition, he said, "I think they will continue to review what else can be done to bring oil prices to a point where we can meet global demand at a fair price." The official said the ultimate U.S. goal is to bring prices in the range of $25 a barrel.
