TEHRAN Thousands of demonstrators held anti-U.S.
and anti-Israeli rally in front of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran yesterday to mark the "National Day of Struggle Against Global Arrogance".
The demonstrators chanting slogans expressed their hatred toward America and the usurper Zionist regime.
The demonstrators shouted "Death to U.S." and "Death to Israel" as they marched through Tehran streets toward the former embassy, which is better known in Iran as the "Den of Spies".
Yesterday, Aban 13 (Nov. 3) was to mark three important events of anniversary of takeover of the former U.S. embassy in Tehran by the Muslim students following the Imam's line, anniversary of exile of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini by the ex-Shah, and the Students Day (the day early after the revolution when several students were martyred).
In the 1979, a group of Muslim students captured the Den of Spies' taking into hostage 52 of the embassy's staff. The 52 hostages were freed after 444 days in captivity.
The demonstrators also shouted slogans in support of Palestine and called for "unity" as the "only key to victory." The demonstrators, before proceeding to the site of the Friday prayer at the Tehran University, issued a resolution in condemnation of the U.S. and Israeli atrocities in occupied Palestine.
In the meantime, substitute leader of the Tehran Friday prayer Ayatollah Mohammad Emami-Kashani called the United States "the world pressure group" adding any government supporting it is considered part of the pressure group.
Addressing thousands of worshipers gathered at the Tehran University campus for the weekly congregational prayer, Ayatollah Kashani commented on the support given to Israeli regime by the United States and said it is the U.S. dollars that has guaranteed the survival of Israel. The ayatollah called on the American people to rise against the country's ruling system which he said was as ignominy for the nation.
He stated that the recent decision by the U.S. Congress against Iran was part of the American authorities' hostile policy while stressing that it was the elite of Zionists who hold the power in the United States.
Ayatollah Kashani called upon the heads of the Muslim countries to become mobilized vis-a-vis the Israeli Zionist regime and the United States and to grant support for the oppressed people of Palestine.
Commenting on the differences among the political camps in the country, he pointed out that these differences are normal to some extent but it would be better for the political factions to consider the sensitive era in which we are living.
He said efforts should be done to promote the public culture, to improve the economic situation of the country and to meet problems such as the rampant unemployment while calling for the opposed factions to stop fruitless disputes.
He praised president Khatami's speech before Japanese Parliament in which the president stressed the Islamic values and the spiritual character of life of Iranian people.
