Trial Session for Mahdaviat Group Has Adjourned Sine Die

TEHRAN Bench 20 of Tehran's Islamic Revolution Court postponed, sine die, the trial of 30 members of a Messianic Shiite Muslim group named "Mahdaviat Group" which was scheduled for Saturday, a reliable source with Tehran's Justice Department told IRNA here Friday.
He said that the adjournment comes upon a request for a "respite" by a number of the lawyers of the defendants.
The request was submitted to the court Thursday.
The group members are to stand trial for their schemes against national security including attempted assassination of Ali Razini, the former head of Tehran's Justice Department in 1999 and theft of weapons from Basiji (volunteer forces) depots in four mosques.
Razini is now heading the Special Court for the Clerics (SCC), that is the spiritual court with exclusive jurisdiction on the clerics.
It is said that the group has aberrant quasireligious and political ideology by which they have misled a large group of Iranian youths and instigated them into rebellious behavior.
