BANDAR ABBAS -- Iran's Navy on Thursday "successfully" concluded five-day war games involving air, ground and naval forces in the Strait of Hormoz in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, official in charge of the operations at the first naval zone of the army , Qassem Rostamabadi said here Thursday.

The war games, code-named "Nour" (the light), were staged in a 16,000 square kilometer stretch of waters, with an aim of upgrading offensive and defensive preparedness of some 4,000 participating forces.

Navy destroyers, submarines, helicopters and speedboats, commandos, parachutists and frogmen participated in the maneuvers, Qassemabadi said.

According to him, the drills included hit and run operations, fighting hypothetical enemy frogmen, aerial attacks by the Air Force jet fighters and crossing mined canals. (IRNA)
