JAKARTA Former Indonesian president Suharto was admitted to Jakarta's Pertamina Hospital early Saturday for an appendectomy, a member of the hospital's staff and his lawyer said, according to AFP. Suharto "underwent appendicitis surgery earlier today," said Syahrir, a member of Pertamina's public affairs staff said. Suharto, 79, is facing charges of massive corruption during his 32 years in power. He has been in frail health since suffering a mild stroke after he stepped down in May 1998 amid mass demonstrations.
