TEHRAN A senior statesman, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, during his talks with a Tajik parliamentarian offered Iranian services for the construction of dam in the Central Asian Republic. According to the same report of IRNA Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi voiced his optimism that future of Irano-Tajik relations in all areas of cooperation particularly in the economic field is bright. Kharrazi was talking to Tajik National Assembly Speaker Mahmadsaid Ubaydullayev on bilateral relation, according to IRNA on Sunday late in the evening. Kharrazi also said that Iran welcomes parliamentary cooperation with Tajikistan. For his part, Ubaydullayev said that development of Tehran-Dushanbe relations is a step in the interest of both countries. Former Iranian president Rafsanjani told Ubaydullayev that Iran and Tajikistan can cooperate in dam construction. He said that Iran is ready to cooperate with Tajikistan in various fields and that the two countries should expand their bilateral cooperation. Ubaydullayev thanked Rafsanjani for his efforts in establishing peace in Tajikistan during the latter's term in office. He conveyed the warm greetings of the Tajik President Imomali Rakhamonov to Rafsanjani and invited him to make a state visit to Tajikistan. Ubaydullayev's visit comes after Iran's Defense Minister Rear-Admiral Ali Shamkhani paid a two-day state visit to Tajikistan last Tuesday at which he stressed that defense cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe would not prejudice any third country. After meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov in Dushanbe, Shamkhani told reporters, "The long-term broadening of military cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran is aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the region." "I hope," he continued, "the two countries can make joint efforts to fight against regional insecurity and infiltration of transregional forces, and establish a lasting peace in the region," he said.
