LONDON British police arrested more than 100 people in a series of predawn raids against a suspected international operation smuggling illegal immigrants into the country, AFP said. The roundup, code-named Operation Leighton, is believed to be the largest of its kind in Britain. Hundreds of police were involved in swoops on 28 homes in Southampton, on England's southern coast. They also stopped vans carrying suspected illegal immigrant workers, several hundred of whom were later being quizzed by police. Many of them are said to be from Poland.
