The Haunted Bush An Englishman,

May 6, 2001 - 0:0
an Irishman and a Scotsman were playing cricket. The Irishman who was batting, hit the ball into a thick bush and the Scotsman went to retrieve it. When he parted the branches of the bush he was startled by a harsh voice which said to him: "I'm the ghost with one black eye. If you don't get away from my bush, I'll haunt you the rest of your life!" The Scotsman backed away in terror and told the Irishman what had happened, "You must have imagined it," said the Irishman and went to get the ball himself. But the moment he touched the bush he heard a voice which made his hair stand on end. "I'm the ghost with one black eye, "rasped the voice. "If you don't get away from my bush, I'll haunt you the rest of your life!" The Irishman ran to his friends and told them what had happened. "Stuff and nonsense, "said the Englishman. He strode off toward the bush, and soon returned with the ball. The Irishman and the Scotsman were amazed. "Didn't the ghost with one black eye threaten you?" they asked. "It did," said the Englishman, nonchalantly. "And now it has two black eyes!" *****Defeated by Pride Two roosters fought for supremacy in the farmyard. Finally one was vanquished and he went and hid himself in a corner of the hen-house. The victor flew up to the roof of the barn and begin to crow, "I've won, I've won!" An eagle swooped down and carried him away and the rooster that had been defeated suddenly found himself unchallenged master of the farmyard. Moral: The enemy is often defeated by his own pride.
