TEHRAN Six members of the cabinet of ex-premier Mir-Hossein Mousavi have filed applications to run in the June 8 presidential elections.

The six include incumbent President Mohammad Khatami, Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani, Vice-President Mostafa Hashemi-Taba, former MP Hassan Ghafoorifard, economic expert Ahmad Tavakkoli and Mansour Razavi.

In Mousavi's cabinet, the six respectively held the posts of Islamic guidance minister, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps minister, industries minister, energy minister, labor minister and head of the Administration and Employment Organization.

All six have said their concern over Iran's future is the impelling motive for their decision to join the race. One or two have said they believe they can provide Iran with its much-needed effective management, while others said they had a compelling sense of duty to run for the presidency.
