Hassan Khomeini Visit to Havana Opens New Chapter in Iran-Cuba Ties
Hojjatoleslam Hassan Khomeini paid a visit to Havana last week at an invitation of Cuban President Fidel Castro. He attended anti-U.S. rallies with Castro with over one million Cuban people in participation. The Cuban officials and people warmly welcomed Hassan Khomeini in their country, Salehi said adding that the visit was also widely mirrored in the Cuban mass media.
The Iranian ambassador expressed satisfaction over growing trend of ties between Tehran and Havana, especially in the economic area over the recent years.
He said Iran and Cuba are to develop their cooperation in the agricultural and biological spheres. Iran and Cuba, both under U.S. economic sanctions, have had close ties in the medical and farming sectors since the 1980s.
The two countries have always enjoyed strong cordial relations and Cuba has always backed the Islamic Republic's stances in the international scenes, especially on issues related to human rights.
