TEHRAN -- William O'Neill, the secretary-general of the world navigation organization (WNO), recently met with representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) organization. He spoke primarily of the need for maintaining safety and protecting the environment of the oceans.

According to the public relations office of IRISL, the WNO secretary general issued a statement saying that since safety and environmental protection are of particular importance, the IRISL is expected to adhere to the standards set by the WNO. The WNO has 159 members.
