TEHRAN Some 101 poems of the great Iranian poet Khajeh Hafez Shirazi have been translated into Spanish and published in a bilingual book.

The book is a joint production of the Spanish poet Clara Jonas and Ahmad Taheri, an Iranian reporter and translator.

The Institute for Eastern and Mediterranean Studies published the 290-page book.

The book, entitled "Hafez Shirazi and 101 Poems," includes a preface and explanations of the most important mystical and literary expressions used by Hafez.

The preface states that the verses of Hafez are like the tiles of Iranian mosques, shining and enticing everyone's eyes.

Jonas believes that the poetry of Hafez is not dated and that the more you read the poems, the more you enjoy them. She says the character of "Rend" (free man) is the prominent figure in the Divan-e Hafez and believes that Hafez is seeking God in this way.

She emphasized that an exact word cannot be found for this character in the Spanish language.

Hafez is still a source of inspiration for Iranian poets and artists. Taheri and Jonas have also translated a selection of quatrains of Molana Rumi and some poems of Sohrab Sepehri and Nima Youshij into Spanish.y)
