Rostam and Sohrab Opera to Be Performed in Austria
Talking in a press conference here Tuesday, Tjeknavorian said this is the first time that an Iranian opera is performed in Austria.
He said Iran enjoys rich traditional music and then added: "I have used folklore and traditional music of Iran in this opera.
"Performance of Rostam and Sohrab opera is significant to me and I am very pleased that it is performed firstly in Austria."
Describing the story of Rostam and Sohrab for Austrian reporters and representatives of news media, he said: "I have been very fond of the stories of Iranian poet Abolqassem Ferdowsi's Shahnameh since my childhood."
Elaborating briefly on the biography of the Iranian great poet, Tjeknavorian said he believes Ferdowsi is the greatest poet of the world and whatever is found in William Shakespeare's works exists in Ferdowsi's works too.
Shahnameh is not merely a book, said Tjeknavorian adding it is the national history of Iran and 70 million people of Iran know Rostam and Sohrab legend.
He said he plans to perform Rostam and Sohrab opera in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States.
