PIRANSHAHR -- Head of Piranshahr Customs Department Hossein Kheyrollah-Nia said that exchange of goods registered in the customs department of the border city of Piranshahr enjoyed 20 percent in first month of current Iranian year compared with the same period last year.

He told IRNA that total import and export registered at the office stood at $267,000 of which $212,000 accounted for the import.

He said that the exported items include cement, plastic and metal products, drinks, clothing, iron profiles, foodstuffs, fruits, dried fruits and gas air conditioners.

Kheyrollah-Nia added that the goods exported via Piranshahr customs have mostly been bound to Arabic states, Turkey and Iraq.

Piranshahr borderline customs was established at Tamarchin marketplace with the goal of boosting border trade and economic development in the area.

The border trade center of Tamarchin ranks first among the country's frontier markets in terms of volume of trade.

The city of Piranshahr with a population of 92,000 is located 120km from Urumiyeh, south of West Azarbaijan Province neighboring Iraq.
