ANKARA -- Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer said here Tuesday that he had very constructive and intimate talks with his Iranian counterpart President Mohammad Khatami during his stay in Tehran.

Speaking to reporters at Ankara Airport upon arrival from Iran, Sezer said Iran and Turkey had stressed a mutual interest to boost relations in all enterprises.

He said he was glad to see that Tehran and Ankara had developed ties over recent years on the basis of good neighborly relations and the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Sezer described as significant the need to boost mutual security cooperation between the two countries with a view to safeguarding common interests.

He stressed that Tehran-Ankara cooperation would not only benefit the Iranian and the Turkish nations, but would also reinforce regional peace and stability.

The Turkish president said an agreement to cut double-taxation on Iran-Turkey trade activities that was concluded between the two countries during his visit to Tehran had prepared the ground to increase the volume of mutual trade, IRNA reported.

Sezer added the inauguration of the first Turkish language and literature course at Tehran's Allameh Tabatabaei University manifested a mutual interest to develop cultural bonds.

The Turkish president further said he had also discussed several regional and international developments in his meetings with President Khatami, including the Palestinian crisis and rebuilding Afghanistan.

Sezer said he had informed President Khatami that Turkey advocates any measure that would put an end to violations in the occupied territories of Palestine.

He stressed that Iran and Turkey could develop cooperation in rebuilding the war-shattered Afghanistan reiterating that Turkey supports the establishment of a democratic government in the country with the participation of all Afghan ethnics.

Turkey's Sezer said that President Khatami had agreed with him that Iraq's territorial integrity has to be protected, and that Baghdad has to abide by the resolutions passed by the UN Security Council.
