Persian Language Courses for Foreigners Get Underway

TEHRAN -- The 32nd Persian language and literature course for foreigners opened at Tehran University on Saturday.

It was attended by 50 professors and students from 14 countries.

The one-month course is being attended by interested individuals from Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Azerbaijan Republic, Georgia and Armenia.

A member to the Cultural Revolution Council, Ali Montazeri told the inaugural ceremony, "Persian is a language of peace, justice and gnosticism.

He added that the promotion of Persian language will contribute to the development of Islam pointing out that the Persian language and Iran belong to all men of culture and the enthusiasts of Persian language. In another development, Deputy Director of the International Center for Teaching Persian Language Gholamreza Sotoudeh said," So far 2,409 foreigners have attended the center's Persian language courses."

He told IRNA here on Saturday that foreign students attend four preliminary Persian language courses in each semester, adding that special courses are offered to foreign students majoring in Orientology as well as Persian language and literature.

Sotoudeh pointed out that so far a number of graduate and post-graduate students majoring Orientology, Islamology as well as oriental languages and literature from Germany, America, Poland, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Russia and Turkey have availed the facilities and services of this international center to attend short-term language courses and to complete their scientific treatises .
