LIMA, Peru -- Rescue teams found the wreckage of a Tans Peru plane on Saturday, two days after it disappeared in Peru's Amazon jungle with 46 people aboard, officials said. No survivors were reported.

The Fokker F-28 crashed on Thursday morning as it approached the airport in the mountain town of Chachapoyas, 390 miles (650km) north of Lima, Reuters reported.

"Yesterday we couldn't reach the area ... but the weather has cleared and the Fokker is there," said Col.

Juan Rodriguez. "It is 10 miles north of Chachapoyas and is apparently destroyed."

"Apparently there were no survivors," Rodriguez told Reuters.

Tans flight 222, with eight children among its 42 passengers and four crew members, disappeared minutes before it was due to land. The jet left the coastal city of Chiclayo shortly after 08:00 A.M. (1300 GMT) for the 30-minute flight and lost contact with air traffic controllers at around 8:43 A.M.
