SINGAPORE -- Nearly 3 million people will be able to access 100 services by Singapore government agencies when a single password system is introduced march 1, organizers said on Tuesday.

By the end of next year, Singpass will be extended from the first 100 services to another 300 in the public sector.

The replacement of the eight-digit password that has been used for 15 years with the new one will provide online dealings with the government for services ranging from filing a tax return or reserving a book at the National Library.

The plan is for Singpass to eventually be the key for accessing even exam results, said Loh Khum Yean on Monday, the Finance Ministry's deputy secretary of services.

Currently, there are more than 40 agencies offering their own password systems. (DPA)
