CALCUTTA, India A government forensic laboratory found that the statue of Jesus Christ that began to bleed contained human blood, an official said Monday. Thousands of people have been flocking to the home in north Calcutta after the resident said a statue of Christ on the wall suddenly began to bleed last week. Skeptics said the bleeding stopped when they demanded scientific testing.

Others said it was a hoax. Tests of the sample taken from the statue revealed it was human blood, said M.S. Rao, director of the Federal Government's Central Forensic and Scientific Laboratories. He said blood samples from the family of the statue's owner, Ajanta Chatterjee, were not tested since they did not offer them. (AP)
