Constitution Acts as Cornerstone of National Solidarity: GC Member

TEHRAN, August 9 (Mehr News Agency) – Mohsen Esmaeili, a jurist member of the supervisory Guardian Council (GC), said here on Friday that the commitment to the Constitution is the best means for safeguarding national interests.

Esmaeili, speaking at the pre-sermon speech of Tehran’s Friday Prayers, said that the political wisdom guarantees national interests and this cannot be achieved unless all political power camps respect the Constitution.

He said the commitment to the Constitution never means that the camps should set aside their differences of opinion, adding that all the efforts should be directed at the realization of the aspirations of the Islamic Revolution as included in the Constitution.

“All the political camps should make efforts in a direction set by the Constitution and seriously avoid weakening each other,” Esmaeili said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the GC member recalled the main reasons behind the failure of Iran’s Constitutional Movement in the 20th century.

“The disputes between the friendly camps and the struggles by opportunists to infiltrate into the Movement were the main reasons behind its failure,” Esmaeili said.

“When the leader of the Islamic Revolution says all the factions in the country are committed to the Islamic system why should some people seek pretexts for sowing discord?” he asked. MS-AA/SM End MNA
