TEHRAN Majlis Economic Commission Tuesday evening officially put on agenda its review o a bill on taxation and ratified Articles 1 and 2 of the bill.

The reviewed the bill and made amendments after about 30 specialist sessions and consulting the majority of the groups that the bill would somehow affect.

A member of the commission confirmed this in an interview with IRNA economic desk saying that in Article 1 and 2 of the bill certain exemptions were ratified with some adjustments in favor of eleemosynary and charity establishments, municipalities and holy shrines.

The deputy of monetary and fiscal policies of the Majlis Economic Commission, too, pointed to major amendments to the bill and described the ratified issues as "totally different from what the government had originally proposed".

He said some of the flaws of the bill had been corrected and that once the bill is tabled at the open session and is adopted by Majlis, it would be one of the most comprehensive acts that the Sixth Majlis has ratified".

He pointed to building up of trust, prevention of tax evasion and reducing the tax burden for low and fixed income groups as the most important objectives of the bill and said "Majlis is trying to bring about an equilibrium and increase in the government revenues and make them more equitable".

He stressed that the bill is among the few about which almost all persons to be affected had expressed their opinion and hoped that its review would be complete in the commission within the next two months for presenting to the open session for final adoption.
