MP Says Bill on Money Laundering Ineffective
Qavami told IRNA that Article 49 of Constitution has made a distinction between legal and illegal fortunes, making it possible for the government and the judiciary to take necessary measures such as issuing penalty and arrangements for return of financial assets to their main owners.
He said the main dark point with the bill on money laundering is identification of the bank, which serves as source for dirty money.
Qavami added that any unwise handling of the issue will entail grave consequences in the economic system such as flight of capital and distortion of financial bodies' prestige.
He said any action for identification of root causes of graft, blackmail, embezzlement, banditry, tax evasion, smuggling of goods, of foreign exchanges and of drugs, arms trade and mismanagement of public funds should follow due legal course.
