GAZA CITY -- A Palestinian girl who was critically wounded in last week's Israeli helicopter strike against Hamas leader Abdul Aziz al-Rantissi died Sunday of her wounds, Palestinian medical sources said.

Amal al-Jarusha, 8, had been kept artificially alive in Gaza's Shifa hospital since sustaining serious head injuries from the June 10 missile attack on Rantissi, which left the Hamas leader only slightly hurt but also killed one of his bodyguards and a woman.

The girl's death brought to 3,346 the number of people killed since the September 2000 outbreak of the Palestinian uprising, including 2,521 Palestinians and 765 Israelis, according to an AFP count.
