Gunship Attack, Another Human Rights Violation in Palestine
The Zionist helicopters attacked Al-Mojed prison late on Thursday, leaving 200 people wounded.
Following the prisoners' protest against the Zionist decision to transfer them to the desert prison Al-Naqab, the Zionist gunships swung into action and wounded several Palestinians. When prisoners objected, their protest was met by an oppressive Israeli crackdown, leading to the injury of 120 prisoners, who have been deprived of proper medical care.
This Zionist action is a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, according to which occupiers are responsible for protecting civilians in occupied territories.
The Zionist regime, out of fear, has decided to transfer Palestinian prisoners to the desert prison Al-Naqab in southern Palestine.
While Israeli authorities attempted to mislead the world by releasing a limited number of Palestinian prisoners whose sentences were almost over, the Israeli prison authorities escalated repressive practices and arbitrary measures against more than 6,000 Palestinian prisoners, including 82 women and 406 children. The suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails can be summed up as follows:
Israeli prison authorities have cancelled around 40 privileges obtained by Palestinian prisoners through past hunger strikes and other protests. On the pretext of an economic crisis, Israeli prison authorities have cut down on services, including food supplies.
Palestinian prisoners are not provided with appropriate medical care. Medical treatment is limited to medicine for headaches. Many prisoners need specialized medical care, but such care, if given at all, is generally only provided months after a request is made.
Palestinian prisoners are prohibited from visiting their friends in other cells.
The prisons are infested with insects, but prisoners are not provided with insecticides.
The temperature in prisons is high, but Israeli authorities refuse to give prisoners fans.
The Israeli prison authorities often punish prisoners for no apparent reason. Israeli soldiers search them when they go to prayers or leave their rooms. They also raid rooms and punish prisoners for trivial reasons.
Human rights are clearly being violated by Israeli prison authorities.
Under such circumstances, international communities and organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), should make serious efforts to prevent further persecution of Palestinian prisoners and pressure the Israeli regime to improve prison conditions.
They should intervene immediately to prevent the continuation of these oppressive measures.
Every effort must be made to stop the human rights violations being committed by the Zionists in Palestine.
