NAJAF, Iraq – The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei told Iraqis "to be patient, resist and fight" following the deadly bomb attack in Najaf almost a week ago, his envoy Mohammad Mahdi Al-Asefi told AFP Thursday.

Asefi was in the holy Shiite Muslim city of Najaf to convey Leader’s condolences to Iraqi Shiites for the death of Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer al-Hakim and at least 82 others in a car bomb explosion on August 29.

"We have come to Iraq to convey to the Iraqi people the condolences of the Seyed Ali Khamenei, who urges them to be show patience, resistance and struggle," the envoy said.

Iran, majority Shiite Muslim like Iraq, had decreed three days of mourning following Hakim's death.
