Gholamzadeh Bags World Taekwondo Bronze for Iran, Rostami Into Final

TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – Omid Gholamzadeh of Iran snatched a bronze medal in the third weight of the World Taekwondo Championships (WTC) in Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany, Saturday.

Representing the country in the eighth weight, Morteza Rostami crushed his Croatian opponent 10-3 to set up final with a Danish player.

Rostami’s victory in the final will take Iran to 58 points.

South Korean has now 51 points.

Iran had already snatched one gold and two silver medals.

National taekwondo player of Iran, Hadi Saei, took a silver medal in the fifth weight of world event Wednesday.

Representing the country in 72kg, Saei overcame his rivals from Brazil, England, Sweden, Mexico, and Republic of Azerbaijan but he lost to his South Korean rival in Wednesday’s final.

Austria and Azerbaijan tied at No. 3, bagging bronze.

Behzad Khodadad added a silver to Iran’s asset as he narrowly lost to his Taiwanese rival 14-13 in second-weight final.

The Iranian player was ahead 4-2 but due to misjudgment he was announced the loser.

The bronze jointly went to the U.S. and South Korea.

Iran’s gold was grabbed by Youssef Karami, who defeated the French Black finalist Michel 13-8.

Turkey and Republic of Azerbaijan finished third, winning the bronze medal.
