TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi called on reporters and the officials in charge of public media to observe moderation and piety as "we are approaching the seventh term of Majlis elections."

Speaking to reporters, he added that given correspondents are likely to be biased towards special factions, they should be careful not to distort the news dissemination trend and be warned against dishonoring individuals.

Karroubi further called on reporters to cover the positive aspects of the events and avoid pointing to drawbacks in such a way as to reduce the public confidence.

"The advantages of news coverage should outweigh its drawbacks and the positive aspects of the news should overshadow their negative dimensions," he added.

Turning to President Mohammad Khatami's remark on certain efforts underway to offer a gloomy picture of the society, he recommended all correspondents to be honest in news dissemination.
