TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) -- An impressive number of Iranian reporters, poets, and authors of Sacred Defense prepared an open letter for the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in a desperate plea for the release of two Iranian documentarians, arrested some 100 days ago by U.S.-led troops in Iraq. The letter is as follows:

Our frequent appeals for the release of the unjustly imprisoned Iranian documentarians seem to have had no real effect on the heads of UN-owned organizations. The two had more than likely journeyed to record historical sites from an artistic viewpoint, and their unjust incarcerations already exceed 100 days. It continues:

Again, we are calling upon you to do your utmost to release the two documentarians, Saeed Abotaleb and Soheil Karimi. This certainly is a case of violation of human rights. We look forward to seeing them soon freed, and we believe freedom is the most basic of human rights.
