TEHRAN (IRNA) -- Public prosecutor’s office on Saturday announced it has submitted to Parliament Speaker Mahdi Karrubi the results of the inquiries on the case of photojournalist Zahra Kazemi.

Mohammad Shadabi, an official with the public prosecutor’s office, confirmed the report saying that the answers to the questions posed in a report of the Article 90 Commission of the parliament which was read out to the last week majlis session were presented to Speaker Karrubi.

Shadabi said the judicial apparatus does not want the report by majlis commission and its response to be reflected in the press as it magnifies the issue while adding that it is up to majlis to decide whether to inform the media of the issue.

However, he said the public prosecutor’s office has provided a specialized answer summing up the legal and judicial aspects of the case.

Article 90 Commission of the parliament in a session last Tuesday reviewed the details of the file of the photojournalist while having recourse to the explanations set forth by the ministry of intelligence, police and the presidential ad hoc committee charged with probing into the case.

Asked how the pubic prosecutor could appease the public opinion on the controversial case, Shadabi said the move by the public prosecutor to submit the results of the inquiries to Speaker Karrubi shows that the judicial apparatus is trying to calm the public opinion and to avoid intensifying the tension in the society.

Kazemi, 54, was arrested on June 23 for taking photographs of protestors outside Evin prison in northern Tehran who were demanding the release of relatives locked up during a wave of campus protests.

She was transferred three days later to Baghiatollah Azam hospital where she died due to brain hemorrhage. Vice President Mohammad Ali Abtahi made the dramatic allegation that Kazemi’s brain hemorrhage was caused by beating.

On Aug 26, Government spokesman Abdollah Ramezanzadeh said Tehran would disclose information on Kazemi’s death, all the proof and evidence included.

He added that Tehran welcomes punishment of culprit(s), no matter to what persons or what organ the culprit or culprits might be affiliated.

Asked when Iran would pass the results of investigations into the case to Canada, Ramezanzadeh said Tehran has no duty to inform the Canadian government of any issue.

He said that from Iran’s point of view, Mrs Kazemi had been an Iranian citizen with double nationality and the event took place in Iranian territory and therefore Iranian officials would themselves follow necessary legal procedures in connection with the case.
