Enemies of Iraqi Nation Make Assassination Attempt on SAIRI Leader: Advisor
Hakim told the Mehr News Agency that the assassination attempt was made in the Seyed Edris mosque in Baghdad when the SAIRI leader had finished his evening prayers there.
"A missile was thrown toward the mosque but changed its direction with the help of God without touching the mosque," he said.
Hakim added that the Russian-made surface-to-air missile hit an automobile without being exploded.
Immediately after the incident experts entered the scene for inspections and it was determined that the missile was thrown from somewhere near the mosque in order to assassinate the SAIRI leader, he noted.
He said that the terrorist act was carried out by the same people who had martyred the former SAIRI leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer Al-Hakim and many other Iraqis through a criminal act several months ago.
"The agents of the toppled Saddam Hussein government and the enemies of peace and security in Iraq intended to assassinate the SAIRI leader, but plan failed," he said.
Hakim added that Abdulaziz Hakim is currently in good health.
Asked about a report in Saudi Arabian daily, Al-Watan, which claimed that the Iraqi Governing Council and the U.S. overseer in Iraq, Paul Bremer, had furtively agreed to rule the country “jointly” he said this report is totally false and baseless.
"No such agreement has been made and we want to give an immediate end to Iraq's occupation and leave the country's affairs to its people," he said.
He added that members of the transitional council will also try their best in regard to the issue.
Referring to the Iraqi's massive turnout in the Qads rallies he said it was a significant change after the collapse of the Baath regime.
He also emphasized on the SAIRI's role to support the resistance movements of the Palestinians.
