Passion of tazieh livens up TMCA cinematheque today
Directed by Bahman Kiarostami, “Shabih-Khani” depicts the art of Iranian passion play through the lives of those who act in shabih-khani, another name for tazieh (Iranian passion play). It is the latest work of Bahman, the 28-year-old son of world-renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.
Bahman spent about four months making the film on location in Tehran, Shush, Borujerd, Nain, Sari, and several other places. The documentary was previously screened at the Iranian Artists Forum in Tehran.
“Memorabilia of the Blood of the Cypress”, the latest work of Ardeshir Salehpur, is about tazieh director and actor Hassan Ganjali, who lives in the town of Tafresh, Markazi Province. The documentary also features the symbols of water and trees as used in ancient Iran.
The screenings will begin at 4 p.m. and the program is open to public.
