TEHRAN -- Sixty-one countries will be represented at the 25th Fajr International Film Festival, which will begin in Tehran on February 1, festival secretary Alireza Rezadad said during a press conference here on Monday.

A total of 240 feature-length, documentary, and short films will be screened in competitive and non-competitive sections of the festival, and 47 countries will offer their latest productions in the festival’s film market, he added.

With 50 foreign and 30 Iranian pavilions, the festival’s film market will be held from February 4 to 8 in Tehran at the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults.

Organizers have selected 15 foreign cineastes for the juries of the festival’s various sections.

To commemorate the current Iranian calendar year, which was named the Year of the Great Prophet Muhammad (S) by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, a filmmaker will also be presented the Moustapha Akkad Award, which is named after the Syrian-born Hollywood director of the acclaimed film “Muhammad, Messenger of God”.

This year’s festival is also scheduled to hold a retrospective of master of comedy Italian style Mario Monicelli and pay tribute to two veterans of Iranian cinema, stage and screen star Ali Nasirian and director Yadollah Samadi.
