TEHRAN - Within the next 10 years, the number of the Iranians with an income of less than two dollars per day will drop to 1.5 percent which is the lowest figure for poverty in the Middle East, said a World Bank report.

Plummeting from the earlier 12 percent to 3.5 percent in 1986, the number of the low-income people (the people earning incomes of less than two dollars per day) has significantly declined, the Mehr News Agency (MNA) the report further said.

If Iran’s economic growth in the coming years stays at an average of three percent, the number of the Iranians with low incomes will drop to 2.5 percent by 2,010 and 1.5 percent by 2,015.

Since 1998, the number of the very poor in Iran (people with incomes of less than a dollar per day) has hit zero, the report also noted.
