TEHRAN (ISNA) – Coinciding with Khorramshahr Liberation Day, the country’s largest sea terminal, a special dock for unloading vessels and a one-hectare area for storing containers will open in the historical southern Iranian city.

This is while last year Khorramshahr for the third year became Iran's second port in terms of stevedoring and is considered as the country's second container harbor.

"Exports to Iraq reached its peak last year, in a way that 1000 ships entered Iraq from Khorramshahr," said an official from the city’s Port and Shipping Organization, Alireza Khojasteh.

"Last year we had over one million tons of cargo loaded and unloaded in this port, of which 454,000 tons were imports and 570,000 tons were exports," he added.

"In the container section approximately 120,000 tons of products were exported to Iraq with 1450 ships which considering weight we can see a 445 percent increase," explained Khojasteh.
