TEHRAN – Cargo handling capacity of the port facilities at Bandar Noshahr will be doubled within the next five coming years, a provincial official said on Sunday.

Some Rls.600 billion has been invested in the development of Bandar Noshahr -a Caspian Sea port city located north of Iran- to boost its stevedoring capacity from the current 2,500,000 tons per year to five million tons annually, noted managing director of the Ports and Shipping Department General of Mazandaran and Golestan Provinces Nabi Seidpur.

The official revealed purchase of the state-of-the-art equipments worth $140 billion and their installation at the port, most important of which are a radar system to control the maritime traffic, lighthouses, search and rescue vessels as well as five tugboats, and building a control tower equipped with modern communication systems.

Bandar Noshahr is expected to soon become one of the nation’s most important ports.
