TEHRAN -- Hojjatoleslam Hassan Khomeini said in Syria Monday that the Islamic community’s main responsibility is to unite Muslims.

The late Imam Khomeini’s grandson, who made the statement in a meeting with a group of Shias and Sunnis in the Syrian capital Damascus, added: “Despite their different views, all Muslim sects have common principles that should be used as a foundation to build unity between Muslim nations.”

The enemies are seeking to eradicate Islam and if Muslims lose their unity, they will prepare the ground for their own destruction, he warned.
