TEHRAN – The Greater San Jose Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has named the Iranian engineer Fardad Jamali, Safety Professional of the Year for 2006.

Jamali, director of an environmental health and safety company, is given this honor in recognition of his professional achievements in the field of environmental and occupational safety and health, his service to ASSE, SEHSA (SUNY Environmental Health and Safety Association) and other organizations. His volunteer work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina has also been highly acclaimed and influenced the choice.

The award was presented to Mr. Jamali on Tuesday, at the meeting of the Greater San Jose Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Persian service of Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) said on Wednesday.

Founded in 1911, the American Society of Safety Engineers is the oldest and largest professional safety organization. Based in Illinois, ASSE has 30,000 members who manage, supervise, research and consult on safety, health, transportation and environmental issues in all industries, government, labor and education.
