TEHRAN -- Nation’s daily share of natural gas at Gonbadly joint field has reached two million cubic meters and production capacity is expected to increase significantly upon drilling more wells, managing director of South Zagros Oil and Gas Producing Company told the MNA here Saturday.

“At the moment, Khangiran and Gonbadly are the two gas fields under exploitation in the eastern part of the country and the former is comprised of two layers of Shurjeh and Mozduran,” added Javad Owji.

Shurjeh’s sweet gas is directly transferred to the pipeline, said the official, adding Mozduran supplies 50 million cubic meters of sour gas per day.

Geophysical operations and field simulation are among many activities conducted to increase production capacity.

Gonbadly does not have much in-place reserve, however further drillings hold the promise of more gas, Owji elaborated.

Gonbadly joint field is located between eastern Iran and Turkmenistan and no figure is yet available on the amount of gas reserve hidden in this area.
