TEHRAN -- The Assembly of Experts held its last session on Wednesday as new election will be held for a new assembly.

The assembly members will visit the shrine of Imam Khomeini today and then hold a meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

In the last official meeting the assembly president Ayatollah Meshkini, and Ayatollah Amini and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani thanked the members for taking part in the assembly meetings in the last eight years.

The assembly on Wednesday called for a fair election for the new assembly.

The Assembly of Experts is composed of 89 members, all clerics, who have the power to supervise and elect the supreme leader.

"Enemies of Islam and extremists are working on a plan to destroy the unity and solidarity of the Muslim world," Rafsanjani said in his address to assembly on Tuesday.

"We need to have specific planning to defend the Islamic world's young generation from the massive cultural invasion of the enemies," Rafsanjani stressed as quoted by IRNA.
