Wood sculpture symposium kicks off in northern Tehran
The symposium, entitled “Wood and Feeling”, is being sponsored by the Tehran Municipality.
Iranian sculptors Nasser Hushmand-Vaziri, Hamid Hakimi, Mohammad-Hossein Emad, Mansur Tabibzadeh, Kamran and Kambiz Sharif, and Jamshid Moradian are to give lectures on wood sculpture and create works during the week-long event.
Tabibzadeh believes that the symposium can elevate the status of sculpture in Iran.
“The participants are the representatives of different Iranian generations,” he said at the opening ceremony.
He went on to say that he regards the symposium as a turning point in the history of Iran’s contemporary sculpture.
On the one hand, it is interesting for people to watch artists creating works and on the other hand, the interaction with an audience will help artists learn about the people’s aesthetic taste, he opined.
The symposium has been designed as a workshop for sculpture students, Tabibzadeh added.
