TEHRAN -- The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned the Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Husun Gurcan Turkoglu to convey Iran’s protest over the forced landing of an Iranian plane in Istanbul.

The aircraft carrying Iranian senior officials, including the Industries and Mines Minister Ali-Reza Tahmasbi, was forced to land in Istanbul airport on Wednesday.

The delegation was heading Tehran after accompanying President Ahmadinejad in his visits to Senegal, Cuba and Venezuela.

Foreign Ministry Director for West Asia Affairs Rasul Eslami demanded a precise explanation for the incident from Turkish officials.

Turkoglu ensured that no political intentions were behind the landing and the unscheduled landing had occurred only due to technical problems. The envoy said he will communicate Iran’s protest to his government and report back the investigation results.

Following the consultations between Iranian and Turkish officials the plane left Istanbul airport for Tehran.
