Iran-Turkmenistan trade tops $1.4b: envoy

ASHGABAT (IRNA) -- Acting Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Mehdi Sobhani here Wednesday evening said the volume of trade between Iran and Turkmenistan has exceeded $1.4 billion.
He made the disclosure during a farewell ceremony for former Iranian ambassador to Ashkhabad Gholam-Reza Ansari.
Some 40,000 Iranian trucks carry Iranian-made products to Turkmenistan every year, Sobhani said.
He expressed his satisfaction with the current level of Tehran-Ashgabat economic and political ties.
The outgoing Iranian ambassador, who also spoke at the ceremony, said Iran attaches great importance to its ties with Central Asian states, including Turkmenistan, and efforts to develop the regional market.
He expressed optimism Iran-Turkmenistan trade exchanges will reach $5 billion in the near future.
