We are committed to all agreements with Solana: Larijani
“Our position is that we cannot have inconclusive talks,” the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council told reporters after talks with Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili. Larijani and European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana held several long rounds of talks and called the last two rounds “fruitful.”
He said Iran will not back down in the face of the EU’s carrot and stick policy. “If EU members think that they can pursue hardline and adventurist measures toward Iran’s nuclear issue and negotiations will continue, they should recognize that the Iranians are not simpleminded people and understand the matter.”
He reiterated that Tehran wants to resolve the nuclear standoff through negotiations. However, he said, “We will be put in new situations when tough policies are introduced, and we will take the new situation into consideration…”
“My talks with Solana set a good foundation for a compromise on the country’s nuclear issue.”
“We are committed to negotiations and their results. If the other side is not committed, it should pay the cost itself.”
“We must try to reach a conclusion, but if they (the EU members) adopt tough approaches, they will not get very far.”
“If the points agreed with Solana in recent talks are the basis of the work, it would be to the mutual benefit and could address both nuclear and regional issues in a calm atmosphere,” Larijani stressed.
