Ties with Iran top of PGCC meeting agenda

RIYADH (IRNA) –- Secretary General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council Abdul-Rahman al-Attiya said here Monday that ties with Iran will top the agenda of the 101st meeting of the council's foreign ministers.

Foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) will hold their 101st meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, today to prepare the agenda for the council's 27th meeting.

Al-Attiya, in a statement issued, highlighted the significance of the meeting considering recent developments and the region's strategic situation.

Participants in the meeting are to discuss various topics including ties with Iran, security issues as highlighted in the campaign against terrorism, peace process in the Middle East, developments in Palestine and Iraq and the crises in Darfur and Somalia, he added.

The PGCC's foreign minister will also exchange views on the possibility of opening up a joint cooperation in the political, military, security, economic and environmental fields.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman are the six members of the PGCC.
