TEHRAN -- Films from Iraq, France, Germany, the United States, the Netherlands, India, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and several other countries will be screened in the Islamic World Section of the 25th Fajr International Film Festival, which will be held in Tehran from February 1 to 11.

The films include "Iraq in Fragments" and “Gaza Strip” directed by James Longley, “Rana's Wedding” by Hany Abu-Assad, “The Color of Olives” by Carolina Rivas, “Private” by Saverio Costanzo, “A New Day in Old Sana'a” by Bader Ben Hirsi, “Lesson One: A Wail” by T. V. Chandran, “Six Weeks of Fear” by Hansjorg Thurn, “Dreams” by Muhammad al-Daraji, “Far Away” by Kazim Oz, and "About Baghdad", a documentary produced and directed by an independent collective of nine directors.

“The Illusionist” directed by Neil Berger, “The Aura” by Fabian Bielinsky, “Say Hello to Father” by Fernando Vargas Villazon, “River Queen” by Vincent Ward, “Sophie Scholl: the Final Days” by Marc Rothemund, “Cinema, Aspirin and Vultures” by Marcelo Gomez, “The Hostage” by Laila Pakalnina, and nine other foreign entries will be competing for Simorghs (the most prestigious Iranian cinematic award) in the International Competition Section of the event.

In addition, 11 short films from Spain, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Britain, Morocco, the U.S., Canada, and Lebanon will be screened in the section.

India’s “Black” by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Poland’s “Debt Collector” by Felix Falk, “The Legend of Lucy Keyes” by John Stimpson and “The Wicker Man” by Neil LaBute from the U.S., France’s “The Plane” by Cedric Kahn, Thailand’s “Journey from the Fall” by Mona Nahm, Japan’s “The Professor and His Beloved Equation” by Takashi Koizumi, and six other movies will be screened in the Spiritual Films Competition Section.

“Blue Swallow” directed by Jung Chang-Yun, “Days of Fire” by Banmei Takahashi, “Gie” by Riri Riza, “The Magnificent Five” by Bhandit Rittakol, “4:30” by Royston Tan, “Critical Encounter” by Sekhar Das, “The Bet Collector” by Jeffery Jeturian, and three other films have been short-listed for the Asian Cinema Competition Section.
