TEHRAN -- Chaos still reigns at Persepolis. The floor and walls of the Hadish Palace of Xerxes have been stained by a red liquid used to represent blood in a TV series, the Persian service of CHN reported on Monday.

“The site’s guards told the cameramen of the TV series about the red stains, but they ignored all the warnings about cleaning up the discoloration and left the site,” said Afshin Yazdani, an archaeologist of Persepolis.

The cameramen were working on “Zero Degree Orbit”, an IRIB TV series being directed by Hassan Fat’hi.

The guards later arrested the cameramen and confiscated all their equipment.

According to experts, such colored liquids are made of chemical materials that damage artifacts and are extremely difficult to clean up. However, a restoration team is currently removing the stains.

The Fars Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department plans to sue the film crew for the damage.

Persepolis officials also said that a number of tourists visiting Iran’s unique tourist magnet were frightened when plastic bullets were fired during the film shoot.

Last week, a member of the production crew damaged two bas-reliefs depicting Achaemenid soldiers on the wall of the Artaxerxes Palace in Persepolis.

The person removed the soldiers’ heads with metal tools, most likely in order to steal the artifacts, the Persepolis Guard Department director said.

Afterwards, Persepolis Ancient Complex director Maziar Kazemi said that officials who issue permits for feature-length films with large crews are responsible for such incidents.

“We have asked the officials not to authorize groups that have applied to make feature-length films at Persepolis, but there has so far been no response to the requests,” he added.

The Cultural Heritage Guards Department has repeatedly asked the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization to stop issuing permits for filming at Persepolis.
