TEHRAN - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said here on Wednesday that the education system should be revised based on the country’s religious and national values.

The education system plays the most influential role in shaping the morals and thinking of a society, and thus reformation of the system is “a fundamental need and an unavoidable necessity,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated in a meeting with Education Minister Mahmud Farshidi, the deputy education ministers, and the directors of educational institutions from across the country. If a nation wants to have financial security, spiritual prosperity, political preeminence, and scientific glory, then it must pay special attention to its education system and give it top priority because human capital, the product of the education system, is the foundation from which higher objectives can be attained, he observed. However, to reform the education system, careful and timely planning is required, he said. The Leader also asked the Education Ministry officials to lay the groundwork now for the reformation of the country’s education system, so that this initiative can be implemented in the next few years
