TEHRAN -- Iran’s National Orchestra conductor Farhad Fakhreddini has urged Tehran’s cultural and municipal officials to establish a greater number of concert halls in the capital.
He said that it was regrettable that a city with a population of 14 million people should have such inadequate facilities for the staging of musical performances.Iranian experts can design halls which meet international standards, he told the Persian service of ISNA on Saturday.
“Those responsible for the design and construction of new auditoriums should consult the musicians who will be using them,” he added.
“Experts should also travel to countries which have excellent facilities for musical events to study their technology and designs and introduce them here,” Fakhreddini explained.
“The ministry of culture has a duty to set up large public halls. However, municipal organizations could also sponsor such projects,” he added.
Fakhreddini suggested that cultural officials should also set up some areas specifically for open-air performances.
At the present time the only concert halls in Tehran which are suitable for large musical events are The Vahdat Hall which can accommodate 1200 people and the National Grand Hall with the capacity to hold 3000 people
